The Adventure
This is a ten night, eleven day safari that starts in Nata and ends at Kasane. During the course of our travels, we will traverse the vast sand flats, which were once the great lakes of Southern Africa, fed by even greater rivers. Over millions of years, the forces of nature diverted the course of the rivers, changing the face of this land.
Join us on an adventure to discover the marvels of this geological intrigue as we travel from Makgadikgadi Pans, westwards around the south of the Okavango Delta, northward along the course of the Okavango River into the Caprivi Strip via the mysterious Tsodilo Hills, eastwards along the Chobe River and on to the mighty Zambezi at the majestic Victoria Falls.
The Team
Your tour leader is an experienced nature conservationist and adventure guide. He will be in radio contact with you at all times and impart a wealth of biological, cultural, historic and four-wheel drive knowledge.
Three meals a day will be prepared by our experienced bush chef in his mobile kitchen, with fresh salads, potjiekos, braais and many other surprises appearing on the menu. The good old “koffie pot” will be on the fire from six till late.
This trip can be easily done in a 2x4 bakkie and 4x4 is not necessary.
Camps and Accommodation
We will be staying in formal, en suite accommodation for the duration of the trip. All meals will be prepared, served by our experienced catering team and enjoyed sitting around the campfire under the African sky. All lodge facilities have cash bars.
Adventure itinerary
Day 1:
We meet at Nata Lodge 10 km south of the town Nata on the Francistown road in the late afternoon. Complete briefing and orientation by your guide will be held on the Makgadikgadi Pans during sunset where your guide will elaborate on the wonderful adventures ahead.
Day 2:
After a hearty breakfast, safety briefing and the issuing of two way radios for communications, we head west toward the safari town of Maun, taking in a few sights along the way. We lunch on the banks of the Boteti River.
Our destination for the night is a riverside lodge in Maun, where we refuel, restock, wash off the dust and enjoy a cold one around the fire.
Day 3:
After an early breakfast there is the opportunity for a highly recommended hour long scenic flight over the Okavango Delta. This is optional and not included in the tour price. After refuelling we head up the western side of the Delta and arrive at the southern bank of the mighty Okavango near the town of Sepupa. Leaving our vehicles in a secure car park, we board aluminium speed boats and transfer to an exclusive houseboat moored in the channels of the Okavango Panhandle where we will be staying for the next two nights.
Day 4:
After a leisurely big breakfast, we have the opportunity to get in touch with the tranquil waterways of the Okavango Delta. We spend the morning exploring the Okavango Panhandle in the comfort of traditional mokoros or dug-out canoes. Our local guides will impart their valuable birding and cultural knowledge. We have a picnic lunch on an island and spend the afternoon on speedboats, fishing or taking in the splendour. Sundowners are enjoyed from the upper deck of the houseboat.
Day 5:
We head north out of Botswana and into Namibia via the mystical Tsodilo Hills with their magnificent Bushman paintings.
At Tsodilo we have an interesting discussion on the Bushmen, visit the museum and have a picnic lunch in this geological wonderland, which is the highest point in Botswana.
Our accommodation for the next three nights is in chalets and tree houses located on the banks of the Okavango River.
Situated in a riverine belt of giant Jackalberry trees with its interesting floating swimming pool and lush surroundings, our camp provides the perfect setting for socialising and relaxing after our daily activities.
Day 6:
Everyone has the opportunity to have a lie-in as you will decide on your own morning activities. We serve a big breakfast/brunch and you have the opportunity to relax in the camp or visit the nearby Mbabata Game Reserve, with its unique sand tracks and very interesting history. There are also a number of activities such as bird watching, dug-out canoe trips, village tours and fishing available for you from the camp. Bhejane will cover park fee costs, but should you choose an alternative activity, the park fees can be used towards this.
We all meet in the late afternoon for a comfortable sundowner cruise in big boats on the Okavango River.
Day 7:
We spend the day testing our game viewing skills in the Mohango Game Reserve where a picnic lunch will be served at one of the many scenic stops.
This section of Caprivi National Park has over 300 bird species and boasts four of the big five. It is also renowned for its Roan Antelope and Sable populations.
Day 8:
We pack up and head back into Botswana via the Caprivi Strip to our next stop outside Kasane in Botswana, where we spend our last 3 nights in hotel accommodation.
Caprivi, the former war-torn province of Namibia is now a national park and safe haven for man and beast alike.
Day 9:
After breakfast we head out, our destination the magnificent Victoria Falls. After taking in the wonders of the Falls we have a picnic lunch, do some site-seeing and shopping in the village of Victoria Falls and, for the brave of heart, the most scenic “bungy jump” in the world can be taken off the Vic Falls Bridge.
Day 10:
Chobe National Park day - We enjoy a three hour game drive on open safari vehicle in the morning and a three hour boat cruise on the Chobe River into the park in the afternoon.
We spend our last night around the campfire enjoying the unique bond of friendship that can only be made by fellow travellers who, together, have experienced the magic of the African bush.
Day 11:
Sadly, after breakfast, we say goodbye and leave for home.
