The Adventure Join us on "The Highwayman's Adventure Route" on deep sand tracks through the vast expanse of the world's largest continuous sand mass - the Kalahari. Bring your camera and 'shoot' a lion, tracking these animals with Bushman trackers in an area twice the size of the Kruger National Park. Our journey takes us into the four million hectare "Mabenyani a Kalahari" (Jewel of the Kalahari) concession area in Botswana and, if that is not enough, we then enter Mabuasehube and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Towards the end of summer, presuming reasonable rains have fallen in the area, the Kgalagadi is noted for its large number of resident eagles, such as the Martial, Tawny, Black Breasted, Snake and Bateleur. These are joined in February and March by the migrant raptors, the Booted Eagle and Steppe Buzzard, and the rare Lesser Spotted Eagle. We hope to be there when the numbers of eagles will be at their highest. However, we must not forget all the other wildlife we expect to see in the harsh but magnificent Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Please note that this is a true adventure safari as we will be bush camping almost every night. However, the Bhejane crew will make it as comfortable as possible.
The Team Your tour leader will be an experienced nature conservationist and adventure guide. He will be in radio contact with you at all times and impart a wealth of biological, cultural, historic and four-wheel drive knowledge. Three meals a day will be prepared by our experienced bush chef in his mobile kitchen, with fresh salads, potjiekos, braais and many other surprises appearing on the menu. The good old “koffie pot” will be on the fire from six till late. Our logistics crew will pitch and take down the camps at all the overnight stops we visit. Tents and tables are provided by Bhejane Adventures. This is a true adventure trip with lots of sand and off road driving, but the Bhejane crew do have the “know how” and recovery equipment to assist with off-road problems. Though our bush-camps will be interesting and rustic, you will at all times be safe, the crew will spare no effort to make you comfortable, provide you with good wholesome food and, most importantly, see that you have a good time.
Adventure itinerary
Day 1: We meet at Cornwall Lodge campsite near Werda and 40km from the Bray border post in Botswana. By the time you arrive, your tents would have been pitched and a swimming pool at the lodge will allow you the opportunity to cool off after your travels. Our bush chef will be preparing the first of the culinary delights you will enjoy on this safari. The evening is spent socializing around the fire and getting to know one another.

Days 2, 3 & 4:
We will spend the next three days travelling in one of the wildest and most remote places in Southern Africa, following only our human GPS (our trusty Bushman guide). The roads will consist of two-spoor tracks, cutlines and bush driving through the red Kalahari sand and savannah. Our route will take us to many pans in the area with names such as Ghankwe, Towe and Gha, where giant eland, springbok, gemsbok and the famous Kalahari lions come to quench their thirst. We will be in an area twice the size of the Kruger National Park and, except for the occasional tracks, there is nothing else made by man. There is no light pollution, so the nights' heavenly skies will take your breath away and the feeling of solitude would be almost frightening if not for your travelling companions. The only other living souls in the area are the occasional wildlife anti-poaching patrols ... this is wild. At night we will bush camp where we arrive but, eat and sleep well, we certainly will.
Days 5 & 6: After an early rise and breakfast, we make our way to the little Botswana village of Hukuntsi in the northern part of the concession where we will replenish much needed water and fuel supplies. We then head shouth again for Mabuasehube on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park where we spend two nights in the same campsite on the edge of Mabua Pan. Sunsets here are spectacular and the days are spent game viewing in an area known for lion, leopard, cheetah, honey badger and brown hyaena sightings.
Day 7: Today, while you are game viewing in the area, the crew will move the camp to Mtopi on the southern sand track route to Nossop where we spend our last wild night under the stars.
Day 8: A lazy wake up and a big breakfast in the Kalahari before we pack up camp and move a little closer to civilization to Nossob campsite on the South African side of the park. Nossop has a little shop, fuel, warm showers, swimming pool, etc. There is enough time to do some game viewing up the Nossob river before sundowners and our last bush dinner together for this one. Day 9: After a lavish breakfast, we must sadly say goodbye to our new friends and travel companions as we pack up and head for home. Luckily you will still see game as you have to drive to Twee Rivieren, where we stamp our passports, before leaving the Park.
