Botswana | Kalahari Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Route #2)

Entry and exit at Twee Rivieren.  Scroll down for dates.

Our journey takes us into the four million hectare "Mabenyani a Kalahari" (Jewel of the Kalahari) concession area in Botswana and, if that is not enough, we then enter Mabuasehube and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Please note that this is a true adventure safari as we will be bush camping almost every night. However, the Bhejane crew will make it as comfortable as possible.

Starting in Twee Rivieren where the red dunes and scrub fade into infinity, our tour takes us north where imposing camel thorn trees provide shade for huge black-mane lions - this is the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park which lies in the large sand-filled basin in the west of the southern African subcontinent, known as the Kalahari.

The Kgalagadi is popular for its sightings of majestic birds of prey and if we’re lucky, we’ll get to spot raptors and eagles. If we’re in the right place at the right time, we might even be honoured with a sighting of the rare Lesser Spotted Eagle.

Day 8

Home

After a lavish breakfast, we must sadly pack up and head for home exiting the Park at Twee Rivieren

Day 7

Nossob

Today we travel back into SA and to Nossob camp and lunch is lightly taken along the way.

Once back at Nossob, you can either explore the camp environs or go further afield and do a game drive to enjoy what the park has to offer.  The waterhole at the campsite provides some entertaining moments for those who wish to remain around the camp.

This evening around the campfire we spend the time with new friends sharing our days adventures.

Day 1

Twee Rivieren

Today our magical adventure through the Kalahari begins.  After arriving at the Bhejane campsite, we all settle in at our first afternoon n the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.  A later afternoon game drive is optional.  There is also a swimming pool at Twee Rivieren for those who wish to cool off after a long drive.

Our bush chef will be preparing your first delicious meal and your evening is spent socializing around the fire and getting to know one another.

Day 2

Nossob

Today we pack up camp and leave for Nossob Camp where we will be staying for our second night in the park.  On our way, we visit the Auchterlonie Museum with displays of the Park's history, stopping en route for lunch.  When we arrive at camp, our tents will be ready and waiting for us, with tea and coffee ready.

After a delicious dinner, we will relax and chat around the fire.

Day 3, 4 & 5

Mabuasehube

After an early rise and breakfast, we cross the border into the Botswana section of the Park driving along the Bosobogolo Trail (aka Boso Trail) which will take us in to Mabuasehube and our camp at Khiding.

The Botswana side of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is quiet and easy going, with plenty of time to sit and think and take in the views and after a long day of driving, we get to camp and wash off the Kalahari dust before enjoying dinner and our first night in this very special wilderness.

All our meals are enjoyed under the A-Frame structure in the camp where it is coolest and offers the most protection.  We spend our days game viewing in an area well known for lion, leopard, cheetah, honey badger and brown hyaena sightings and simply enjoy the stillness and peace.

Lunch and Dinner and enjoyed together around the campfire and under the stars.

Day 6

Mosomane Pan

After early morning coffee and rusks, and a light breakfast, we pack up and tackle the Mabuasehube Wilderness Trail, which starts just up the road from Khiding.  This cut-line overnights at Mosomane Pan, where there are no facilities at all and we’re guaranteed to be completely alone - this campsite overlooks a dry pan.

After a leisurely drive from Khiding, we arrive in camp to find the crew has already pitched our tents and while they prepare an early dinner we are able to enjoy an ice cold drink and watch the sun.

Tomorrow is going to be an early start so after dinner we turn in.
