Endless hiking & MTB trails. Best beaches. Abundant fresh air

The Bitou Eco Camp is a unique experience. It is sensitive 12 bed eco-camp nestled onto the banks of the Bitou River. For the past four years this special off-grid camp has offered an ideal glamping destination for families and their friends. The great news now, is that now we can offer our clients a chance to camp, literally on-trail of the fast-growing new MTB trails network being established in the region.

Boasting hundreds of kilometers of pristine trail country, the Garden Route lies within one of smallest but richest floral kingdoms on our planet.  Already established as one of South Africa’s hottest holiday spots, the area is now established as a world-class single-track MTB and hiking destination with some of the most spectacular trails out there!

For adventure seekers and lovers of fresh air, the Bitou Valley Eco Camp offers a unique camping experience. Nestled onto the banks of the Bitou River, this 12-bed eco camp provides off the grid glamping with local cuisine (aka potjie, braaivleis & roosterbrood) around the campfire and under our southern skies.  Only 6km from Plettenberg Bay’s iconic beaches and close to many other adventure attractions in the region, this camp is located literally dead center of the new MTB trails with unlimited access to all the trails (Hiking and MTB), Kayaking and Stand Up paddleboarding

Stayovers at the Bitou Valley Eco Camp include two meals a day, unlimited access to the activities, truly great birding and swimming with a minimum two-night stay.

For the 2021.22 holiday season, guests at the camp are also eligible for 50% off a guided self-drive exploration into the Diepwalle section of the deep Knysna Forest.

The Bitou Eco Camp

Located just outside Plettenberg Bay, the Bitou Eco Camp is situated in the heart of the Bitou Valley in the Cape Floristic Kingdom which is the smallest, yet most diverse of the world’s six floral kingdoms, a World Heritage Site and a biodiversity hotspot.  Falling within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Plettenberg Bay area is home to no less than five Blue Flag beaches and is in very close proximity to several Marine Protected Areas and breathtakingly beautiful forests – a living monument to our natural history. The woody vegetation on the banks of the river surrounding the camp provides a unique habitat for birdlife that includes Fish Eagles, Kingfishers, Blue Cranes, Greater and Lesser Flamingoes, Plovers, Herons and marine birds to mention a few.  This is a place where paddling in the river is for everyone, not just the ducks, and our guided bird excursions on foot and in our canoes are an unforgettable experience. Our beds come complete with soft mattresses and cotton bedlinen. Our tents specially designed to suit the local environment – their organic shape created to blend into and reflect the forest canopy while perching on mobile decks, thus preventing damage to the vegetation on the floor of the surrounding bush - each location carefully selected to ensure privacy and maximize on the spectacular beauty of the area - the tents are situated to ensure that there is no vegetation damage and individual camp sites are located next to the river, on the fringe of the canopy and under the Milkwood Trees.  Each location has been carefully selected to ensure privacy and maximize on the spectacular beauty of the area.

Food for your meals is prepared by our Camp Chef using locally grown vegetables and meals will be enjoyed around a camp fire.  Falling asleep with the sound of snuffling bushbuck and croaking frogs, waking to the call of nearby nesting Fish Eagles and knowing you’ve not only visited lightly but have contributed positively to the surrounding landscape, the Bitou Eco Camp offers a truly special and unique experience, one that will live on in your memory.
